Exploring the concept of social constructs and finding one’s identity in life and society. Grappling with the idea of what the American life was going to be like after moving to the USA, Shoghi found himself navigating a whole new life exploring concepts of sex, racial identity, adulthood and responsibility.
The figure in the painting appears to represent different skin tones to show that even though humans appear to be different, the struggles of life are often similar, social currency then becomes a way of life. Mixed media on unprimed traditional canvas, using the same technique of lining the canvas with tape and then peeling off each individual strip and painting on it, this process took quite some time to execute.
